Jerusalem & Tel Aviv, Israel, 16-18 March 2015
Early general elections for the twentieth Israeli parliament, the Knesset, will be held on 17 March 2015.
Current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party have been in a tight race against the Zionist Union-an alliance between the Labor Party, led by Isaac Herzog and Hatnuah, the party of former peace negotiator Tzipi Livni.
While Benjamin Netanyahu garnered international attention with his controversial address about Iran to the United States Congress, his leading contender, Isaac Herzog focused on gathering votes at home in Israel. Israelis were divided on the provocative speech made in Washington and many are worried about long term damage to the relationship with the US.

Israel will hold a general election on 17 March 2015.
Israel has a parliamentary system based on nation-wide proportional representation. This means that voters elect nationally-registered political factions—not local candidates.
Each faction receives representation in the 120-seat Knesset (parliament) proportional to how many votes it gets. Factions must meet a threshold of at least 3.25 percent of the vote to qualify for seats in the Knesset. Factions may determine their own list of candidates, including by internal election or appointment.
