A commemorative ceremony of the liberation of Auschwitz will be held in the former Nazi German concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27th, 2015. The anniversary ceremony will be attended by former prisoners, Polish state authorities and International guests. The President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski has assumed honorary patronage of the anniversary. The 27th of January is also the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.

Programme of the commemoration ceremony:
15.30 CET - main commemoration in front of "the Gate of Death" in Birkenau
17.00 CET - paying tribute to the victims at the monument in Birkenau
20.00 CET - concert at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Hall in Katowice

Auschwitz - Birkenau State Museum, Poland, 27 January 2015

The 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp, will be commemorated on 27 January 2015 at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp, Oswiecim, Poland.

More than 100 Auschwitz survivors from at least 17 countries are expected to travel to Poland to attend the main ceremony in front of the Death Gate of the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp. The youngest ones are now in their eighties. Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, along with his German & French counterparts J.Gauck & F.Hollande will attend the commemoration due to begin at 14:30 GMT. Heads of State or Government from many other countries such as The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Croatia and Denmark will also travel to Auschwitz.

27 January became an International Holocaust Remembrance Day ten years ago. At least 1.1 million people, most of them Jews, were murdered within less than five years in Auschwitz.
