Vienna, Austria, 18-24 November 2014

A final round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 is scheduled to take place in Vienna from 18-24 November. Representatives from the US, Great-Britain, China, France, Russia and Germany will try to reach a diplomatic settlement with Teheran to resolve the long standoff over Iran's nuclear program.

High-level talks are already taking place in Muscat, Oman, in order to speed up progress towards reaching a deal on limiting Teheran's nuclear program in return for easing sanctions by the 24 November deadline.

According to US officials, there are still major gaps between the parties such as the size of Iran's enrichment program and how many uranium-enriching centrifuges it should be allowed to keep spinning, as well as the length of any long-term agreement and how quickly international sanctions should be lifted.

Iran and the P5+1 group struck an interim deal a year ago, under which Iran would halt higher-grade enrichment in exchange for limited sanctions relief. That agreement was to expire in July but was extended by four months.

Negotiators from Iran, the US and the European Union are to continue talks in Vienna over their continuing disagreements, which mostly concerns Tehran's willingness to curb its uranium enrichment work in exchange for gradual reduction of sanctions. The talks come just before a 24 November deadline to complete an agreement on Iran's nuclear programme.
