Geneva, Switzerland , 4-5 September 2014
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is to convene a panel of experts to discuss potential drugs and vaccines to contain the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The meeting which will gather experts in Pharmaceutical research, clinical management, ethical, legal and regulatory issues, is set for 4-5 September in Geneva, Switzerland.
Experts are to review the most innovative models for expediting clinical trials and ways of increasing production for the most promising drugs.
The WHO in August supported the use of untested drugs on people infected with Ebola, but the lack of supplies raised questions on how to prioritise who receives treatment.
The current and most deadly outbreak of Ebola has claimed 1'350 lives in 4 countreies across West Africa including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. there have been 2473 recorded cases across the 4 countries.
