Washington, DC, USA, August 4-6, 2014

U.S. President Barack Obama will host the US Africa Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. on August 4-6, 2014.

This historic summit, the first of its kind, will bring leaders from across the African continent to the American capital to further strengthen ties with one of the world's most dynamic and fastest-growing regions. The event is expected to be the largest-ever gathering of heads of state in Washington DC.

The theme of the summit is "Investing in the Next Generation." Building on President Obama’s trip to Africa last summer, the summit will focus on trade and investment in Africa, and highlight America’s commitment to Africa’s security, its democratic development, and the ideas of its young people.

Hundreds of business, education and health officials are accompanying the continent's political leaders. African and American CEOs will meet to discuss ways of strengthening economic ties in a forum hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the US Commerce Secretary, while US First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush will host a spouses' symposium focused on health and education.
