The head of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone, is standing trial in Munich over allegations he bribed former German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky during negotiations concerning the sale of F1 championship rights, that carry a maximum 10-year prison sentence. Gribkowsky is the most important witness in the case against Ecclestone, who had always denied the allegations.

The German bribery trial of Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone will start on April 24.
He will attend court two days a week, enabling him to continue to attend Grand Prix. The motor-racing magnate was charged last July in relation to a US$44-million (32-million-euro) payment he made to former German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky which was linked to the sale of Formula One championship rights in 2006.
