Eurovision News Events

Pretoria, South Africa, 7-8 May 2014

South Africa will hold parliamentary elections on May 7th for the first time since the death of Nelson Mandela, the father of South African democracy.

The country's ruling African National Congress faces its toughest ever election as it is seen by more and more people as corrupt and ineffective. Opinion polls suggest Mandela's ANC may emerge weaker than at any other time in the past 20 years.

It will be the fifth fully democratic poll since the end of apartheid in 1994.

Eurovision Special Events will offer the following facilities in Pretoria:

Standup position for Live programme inserts
Playout
Connectivity to the Eurovision Global Network

We are planning to be located outside a polling station on 7 May and at the IEC (Electoral Commission of South Africa) on 8 May.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, 07 MAY 2014

South Africa goes to the polls on May 7. It will be the first election since the death of anti-apartheid hero and former president Nelson Mandela.

The African National Congress has held power since South Africa's first democratic vote more than twenty years ago.

Opposition parties are expected to make some gains against the ANC after a series of corruption scandals, though current President Jacob Zuma is expected to maintain a strong parliamentary majority.
