Normandy, France - 06 June 2014
The 70th Anniversary of D-Day will be commemorated in Normandy, France, on 6 June 2014. Queen Elizabeth, US President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin have confirmed they will attend the main ceremony in Ouistreham, Sword Beach, along with French President François Hollande.
Presidents Obama and Hollande will first meet in the morning at the US cemetery of Colleville-Sur-Mer, Omaha Beach.
156,000 Allied troops fought their way on to the shores of Normandy on 6 June, 1944. This is likely to be the last significant commemoration attended by veterans in large numbers as many are now in their late 80s and 90s.
Eurovision Special Events will offer the following facilities in 3 different locations in Normandy:

The 70th anniversary of the World War Two D-Day landings, also known as Operation Neptune and Operation Overlord, in Normandy, northern France, is due to be marked.

World leaders are to travel to the Normandy beaches in France in early June to attend events marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, history's largest amphibious invasion.
U.S. President Barack Obama, British Queen Elizabeth II, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are among the 15 leaders invited by French President Francois Hollande to take part in commemorations on 6 June, alongside surviving veterans.
The Allied landing in Normandy marked the beginning of a major offensive against Nazi Germany during World War II and the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe.
