Cannes, France - 14 - 25 May 2014

The 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is coming to an end, with the closing ceremony and prestigious Palme d’Or exceptionally handed out on Saturday 24 May.

Among the returning contenders for the Palme d’Or are British directors Mike Leigh and Ken Loach, the Dardenne brothers, Michel Hazanavicius, Atom Egoyan with Ryan Reynolds-starrer The Captive, and David Cronenberg who presented a satire on Hollywood, Maps to the Stars, with Robert Pattinson, Julianne Moore and Carrie Fisher. Tommy Lee Jones also came to La Croisette with his new film The homesman.

New Zealand director Jane Campion is the President of the Jury. She is so far the only female director to have won the prestigious Palme d'Or, back in 1993 for The Piano. Sofia Coppola, Gael García Bernal, Willem Dafoe and Nicolas Winding Refn are among the nine-strong panel that form the Jury.

Due to the European elections on Sunday 25 May, the Festival de Cannes has decided to bring forward the closing ceremony a day earlier, on Saturday 24 May.
